GEORGETOWN, KENTUCKY, (August 16, 2007) — TMMK held a special get-together in the Visitor Center to celebrate the retirement of former TMMK president and chairman Gary Convis. The event caps off a week’s worth of special receptions and dinners honoring the 64-year-old Convis.
Hundreds of team members took the opportunity to bid Convis goodbye and wish him well in his new endeavour. Despite retiring, Convis will still remain in close contact with Toyota. He will continue to serve the company in the role of Senior Executive Advisor.
Convis began his career at Toyota in April 1984, joining New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. as plant general manager responsible for manufacturing operations and personnel. In 1987, he assumed the responsibilities of vice president of manufacturing, becoming a senior vice president in 1994 and executive vice president in 1997. In May 2000, he joined Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) as executive vice president and assumed post as president in April 2001. In June 2006, he was made chairman of TMMK. In June 2003, he was made managing officer at Toyota Motor Corporation.
