More than a decade ago, Toyota began using returnable containers for shipping parts and accessories. The environmental impact so far: saving 220 million pounds of wood and 145 million pounds of cardboard, the equivalent of 2.7 billion trees. It also adds up to $1 billion in cost savings for the company...and that’s no pulp fiction.
At a reception in Washington, D.C., Thursday, The Manufacturing Institute recognized 130 recipients of the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Ahead Award, including two women from Toyota.
